FASTWRAP MEETS TOUGHEST SPECS FOR DEPT OF EDUCATION

Paul_1

Company: Paul Industries

When faced with the strict Department of Education specs for the Te Puke Intermediate re-roof, Terry Hunt, General Manager of TH Commercial Roofing knew that Fastwrap FlameSpec Roofing Underlay was a safe bet.

“I love their synthetic underlays” commented Terry. “The quality is great plus they’re strong and far better to work with in the wind”.

The roofing element of the extensive redevelopment project by Prendos Architects and Gartshore Construction included replacing the traditional roofing paper with a synthetic underlay. TH Commercial Roofing paired Fastwrap FlameSpec SS with Bayonet Roof Safe Netting, both supplied by Tauranga firm, Paul Industries.

“We try to support local business where we can” added Terry “and the service we get from Paul Industries is always good”.

By manufacturing locally Paul Industries are able to supply custom-sized roof netting to meet the specifications of each job. “This cuts back on waste and saves time when we’re installing” says Terry.

Marshall Innovation’s ProtectoWall Tanking System offers the complete below ground tanking solution

Marshall_1

Company: Marshall Innovations

The ProtectoWall system offers a reinforced membrane that welds together with the unique jointing system which ensures a comprehensive cohesive bond to all laps.

The ProtectoWall membrane is overlaid with ProDrain8 Protection Board which creates a cavity allowing for air movement and drainage before any moisture can reach the tanked surface.

ProDrain8’s unique dimpled surface ensures continuous protection of the membrane whilst providing an outstanding comprehensive strength of 250kN/m2.

ProDrain8 is impervious to root penetration, won’t rot and can be easily formed around curved walls and ensures protection to internal & external corners is maintained.

ProtectoWall can be applied over poly based ICF systems, masonry block & pre-cast panel.

To complete the system there are many options for finishing the top edge, a popular choice is to use ProtectoTape which seals the top edge and is plastered over for a clean finish.

The system is BRANZ Appraised with a 50 year durability rating and is installed by Certified Installers throughout New Zealand.

Don’t let your plant-room dampen your forecasts

Neuchatel_1

Typically leveraged into the smallest possible footprint, and exposed to the elements, there’s plumbing, electrics, HVAC, back up generators and everything but the kitchen sink.

Company: Neuchatel

Plant-rooms need to be robust! They impact on the life expectancy of your plant, the quality of life for your occupants, and the costs of staying in business.

More simply, your plant-room is the heart of your building. It houses the key components for services like electrics, plumbing, HVAC and much more. And invariably it’s shoe-horned into as small a space as possible. Like a multi-layered maze for technicians to tamper and tweak.

Not only must it cope with the constant stops, starts and vibrations of the equipment, but it’s usually exposed to the elements, and must deal with extremes in heat, cold and moisture. And if that isn’t enough to plan for, add in a couple of decades of maintenance men wrenching on parts, dropping tools and drilling holes – all of which add stress to the floors.

And usually once your plant is installed, any repair to the floor or walls is very difficult and usually short term.

Consequently, how you go about waterproofing and dampening a plant-room can have significant impact on your future returns.

For the last 100+ years, the best solution for protecting the integrity of your plant-room has been to coat the floors with a 20-35mm layer of Neuchatel Mastic Asphalt. It’s tough, durable, flexible, and will last 50-60 years (which ought to see out the life of your plant several times over).

At Neuchatel we’ve been protecting tens of thousands of surfaces from deterioration caused by heavy machinery and the elements. Over time we’ve refined our products and our service to be more durable, environmentally friendly and affordable – especially for large scale projects.

Find out more at www.neuchatel.co.nz

The floors need to cope with vibration, heat, cold, condensation and the best intentions of your maintenance department. If there’s a breach of integrity, it’s going to be very costly to fix.

Invibe™ panel provides a low maintenance solution for a bathroom renovation project at a Bayview rental property

James_1

Company: James Hardie

The owner of a rental property in Bayview, Auckland was seeking a low maintenance solution for a bathroom renovation. James Hardie Invibe™ panel provided both durability and a lustrous coloured look for the bathroom, which was previously unsuitable for a rental situation. The materials met all of the owner’s requirements including achieving the lowest maintenance solution and highest grade finish possible.

Chris Ross is both the client and architect behind this bathroom renovation project. A Senior Draughtsperson for Paul Brown Architects, Ross designed the bathroom makeover and installed the panels himself. Despite his previous experience incorporating James Hardie products into his designs, the DIY project was not without its challenges.

The James Hardie Solution

James Hardie Invibe™ panel and jointers were applied to the interior bathroom walls.

“The use of a pre-finished panel seemed to be the best solution for this area. It is mould resistant, easy to clean, and tough – or in other words, tenant resistant!” explains Ross.

The coating provides an impervious surface barrier to moisture, and the cement-composite substrate is resistant to damage from moisture, providing a double shield of durability.

“It also provided the added bonus of adding a splash of colour to the bathroom.”

Ross selected gloss panels in Rouge and Stone for an “on trend” finish. “The gloss finish not only provides a modern, industrial-feel to the bathroom, it has actually increased light levels in the area,” says Ross.

Invibe™ panel is also quick to install as it does not require a base substrate for installation. The panel can be silicone butt-jointed or installed with the ARChitectural™ range of aluminium mouldings.

Ross worked with James Hardie representatives to modify the installation to suit the project better.

“The solution was to use a timber profile to cap the top of the panel and notch the back to receive the vertical jointer. This solution achieved a crisp edge against the Invibe™ panel and meant the Invibe™ panel could be installed much more easily.”

Ross concludes that, “while it lends itself well to an industrial-type application it is an amazing product to have in my home and I would recommend it to all types of clients.”

Kiwi innovation takes international best practise to new highs

Aridon_1

Company: ARIDON®

We have seen a lot of change in the last 20 years and a lot of building envelope failure – yet, the traditional building materials we use in our building envelope have been around for 20+ years with only minor design changes. Would you consider using the cell phone you had 20 years ago, or have you chosen to move to a smart phone?

So why settle for old technology when building/designing? Global best practise has seen the emergence of all-in-one smart building systems that dynamically control water, air and heat movement in the building enclosure.

The optimum position for these rain, air, vapour and heat control layers (building enclosure) is on the outside of the wall frame, in order to protect the building structure/frame from temperature extremes and water penetration. ARIDON® is the ultimate smart solution – designed and developed for the NZ environment.

So what is ARIDON®? The ARIDON® system is a continuous layer of interlocking, rigid panels that wrap around the building frame, to form a weatherproof thermal shell.  This shell acts as an intelligent control layer for the building – managing rain, air, vapour and heat movement. Overseas similar systems are called The Perfect Wall, as they not only reduce the risk of building envelope failure, but also provide a healthier, more sustainable building.

In layman’s speak we have combined the Building wrap + Rigid Barrier + The Cavity Battens + The Insulation into one all-encompassing rigid panel that performs at a level far higher than the sum of the individual components. Why? Because building science has proven that moving the “control layers” to the outside of the frame is a far superior way of stopping internal and external moisture ingress, eliminating thermal bridging and providing superior long term energy efficiency.

At Aridon Ltd – we believe “Sustainability” is also about getting fewer products to perform better. If you don’t need to drain the environment by manufacturing four products – why would you, when you can achieve better results with one? We have a bunch of clever people who understand these new technologies and the building industry – the result: a Gold Standard solution.

So, are you ready to move away from your old technology and try an internationally proven smart solution?
